Youth Page
As a small rural church we have a wonderful group of young people that are able to be active participants of our church family. The youth of our church understand how important they are to our faith life and that of our church. From Sunday School, Confirmation, Bible Camps, Youth Gatherings, and Youth Activities there are many options for young people to make a connection with others.
When North Buffalo encourages the youth to attend activities outside of the congregation there is always support through prayer and financial aid from different organizations within the church family and often through fundraiser's.
Pathways Bible Camps have always been a tradition with the youth of North Buffalo. They provide yet another avenue in which to teach about our faith. They come back and share the songs and messages that they learned and gain everlasting friendships with those that they went with.
The congregation strongly encourages the high school aged youth to attend at least one National Youth Gathering during their high school years. From San Antonio to New Orleans to other areas of the states our youth have had memorable experiences at the youth gatherings. Ask them about their trip and they will tell you many stories for sure.
The Junior High Youth Gathering is a popular event for the young teens where they connect with other youth from around the state to share fellowship and their faith.

On June 30th eight youth and two adults from North Buffalo Church left Minnesota for an 11 night adventure to Texas for the ELCA Youth Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Our journey consisted of long bus rides, restless hotel nights and miles of walking. The reward for those inconveniences was a great day at Six Flags Amusement Park, a Texas Ranger major league baseball game, a day at the beach, a tour of the Corpus Christi Aquarium, a visit to the Oklahoma Federal Building Memorial and five days along the River Walk in San Antonio. The gathering held daily activities in the Alamodome and the Convention Center that centered around the youth and Christianity. Many memories were made that will last a lifetime. Our group's friendships were strengthened and new friendships made. Everyone got to know everyone else on a stronger, more spiritual level. The eight from North Buffalo Church were the absolute "BEST" group ever. Thank you to all who contributed to the fundraising efforts of the youth group. Thanks to your generosity the kids only had to pay about half of what the trip would have cost. We will give a presentation about the trip on Rally Sunday in September !
Can We Do It?
"YES WE DID !!"
OUR GOAL WAS REACHED ON MARCH 18th
Those thunderous refrains are sounding loud and clear by our actions at North Buffalo Lutheran! Excitement is building and so is our large collection of canned goods!
The Life and Fellowship Committee and North Buffalo's youth have joined forces to line the interior perimeters of our sanctuary, gathering area and fellowship hall with canned goods. This endeavor will cover 400 feet 3 inches with a wonderful selection of items for our local food pantry. This calculates to approximately 1600 cans of food. What a helpful way to assist others in the name of Christ! "Can we do it?" "Yes, we did!"
Quilts Tied With Love
Our junior high students completed fleece tie quilts as part of their Akaloo Sunday School curriculum, focusing on supporting others within our community. These colorful quilts were carefully made by Matt Fossum, Shelby Olson, Katie Gilbery and Sara Maloney with supportive assistance from Deb Lackmann and Jill Carlson. The congregation blessed these gifts on Sunday, January 24.
These beautiful quilts were given to residents who live at the YWCA Shelter in Fargo. May the love that went into these quilts warm the hearts of those who receive them!
Spring Fling March 25, 2007
The Youth Group attended a Red Hawk's game in Fargo.
The youth group bowling event was October 28th 2007 at the "All Star Bowl". 17 youth attended and had loads of fun bowling and playing trivia games with prizes. After the event there was pizza delivered and a brief overview of upcoming events the youth group has planned.
Youth Group
The North Buffalo Youth Group kick-off meeting and pizza party will be held in the Fellowship Hall, on Sunday, September 14th from 11:15 -12:30 pm. We'll be electing officers for the coming year and start organizing for next summer's National Youth Gathering in New Orleans! Don't miss out on this fantastic experience of traveling with 200 plus other youth from our Northwestern Minnesota Synod with Pathways Bible Camping. A pre-gathering time will be spent on the beach at Pensacola, Florida!
Confirmation Retreat
North Buffalo's confirmands, Matt Fossum, Anna Gilbery, Adrien Hyland and Amy Fossum retreated to Bad Medicine Lake for a late summer retreat. Pastor Mark and Emily accompanied them.
Our confirmands studied The Lord's Prayer in mini-sessions, using our Here We Stand, a part of their confirmation curriculum as a guide. Reflection, prayer and discussions were additional components of their learning.
A lot of fun experiences were shared! Pontooning, kayaking, tubing, swimming and fishing were water sports that were enjoyed by all! Our meals were “peppered” with lively literature reviews, sharing highlights of summer fun, plenty of funny jokes and chatter about the onset of the school year. And, of course, what would a retreat be without bone-chillin' ghost stories told around a campfire under a star-studded sky?
North Buffalo members can be very, very proud of these young people of faith. Their delight in God's world, their seriousness in study, eagerness to discuss their beliefs and their faith-filled curiosity demonstrates our church family has provided a firm foundation for their Christian education. Each of them is a unique child of God and has an integral part to play in showing His grace and love to the world!
